K-pop has its own vocabulary — a mix of Korean, English and fan-invented words. When you're new, it can be a lot at once. Here's a clear K-pop glossary of the words you need to follow the fans, the videos and the concerts.

Words about the members

• Maknae: the youngest member of a group.
• Visual: the member designated as the group's aesthetic "face."
• Center: the one who holds the middle of the choreography and the key shots.

Music words

• Comeback: a group's return with a new song or album (not a "comeback" after an absence — just a new release).
• Era: the period and aesthetic tied to a specific comeback.
• Teaser: the snippets released before a drop to build hype.
• Title track: an album's lead single — the one with a music video and promotion.
• Fanchant: the lines fans shout in rhythm during live performances.

Fandom words

• Stan: to be an all-in fan of a group ("I stan this group").
