The 4 BLACKPINK members in detail
Jisoo: the oldest and the visual
Kim Ji-soo was born on January 3, 1995, in South Korea. She's the oldest member and often the one breaking the tension with her slightly offbeat humor. She's a vocalist and the group's “visual,” the face that represents the group.
She's built a real acting career too: the lead in the drama Snowdrop (2021-2022), then Newtopia in 2025. Musically, her single Flower (2023) kicked off her solo career, followed by the mini album AMORTAGE in February 2025. She now runs her solo work through her own label, BLISSOO.
Jennie: the rapper and fashion icon
Jennie Kim was born on January 16, 1996, in South Korea. As a kid she went to school in Auckland, New Zealand, then came back to Korea to train at YG. That's where her fluent English comes from, and you can hear it in her verses.
She's the group's main rapper and sings a lot too. She was the first member to go solo, with SOLO in 2018. She acted in HBO's The Idol in 2023, then dropped her first album, Ruby, in March 2025 through her own label, ODD ATELIER. In fashion, she's one of the K-pop names luxury houses follow most closely.
Rosé: the voice of the group
Roseanne Park, Korean name Park Chae-young, was born on February 11, 1997, in Auckland, New Zealand. She grew up in Melbourne, Australia, before auditioning for YG in Sydney. She holds dual New Zealand and South Korean citizenship.
The group's main vocalist, with a tone you recognize from the first note, she also plays guitar and piano. Solo, she released On the Ground in 2021, then hit massive with APT. alongside Bruno Mars in late 2024, ahead of her first album, rosie, in December 2024. For her solo work, she signed with The Black Label.
Lisa: the dancer and the maknae
Lalisa Manobal (often spelled Manoban), born Pranpriya, was born on March 27, 1997, in Buriram province, Thailand. She's the youngest, the “maknae,” and the only non-Korean member. She was the only applicant selected at YG's audition in Thailand.
Main dancer and rapper, she's the group's dance reference point. Solo, she released LALISA and MONEY in 2021, ROCKSTAR in 2024, then the album Alter Ego in February 2025. The same year she made her acting debut in season 3 of HBO's The White Lotus. She founded her own company, LLOUD.
BLINK: BLACKPINK's fandom
BLACKPINK fans are called BLINK, a blend of “BLack” and “pINK,” the two words in the group's name. Their colors: black and pink, of course.
The official lightstick has a look all its own: a little heart-shaped hammer fans call the “hammer bong” (or “Bl-ping-bong”). At concerts, the floor turns into a pink sea. Curious where other fandom names come from (ARMY, STAY, ATINY…)? We cover them in K-pop fandom names explained.
Why the name BLACKPINK?
YG explained the name plays on contrast: pink, the color people associate with sweetness, and black, to say there's a lot more to them than that. It was a way to announce the group's “girl crush” concept, elegant and powerful at once.

BLACKPINK today: group and solo careers
Since late 2023, BLACKPINK runs on two tracks. The group stays with YG Entertainment for albums and tours as a foursome. Solo careers go through other companies: ODD ATELIER for Jennie, BLISSOO for Jisoo, LLOUD for Lisa and The Black Label for Rosé.
That setup let all four release solo projects, often with major US labels, without ending the group. And the four-member return in 2025-2026, with JUMP, the tour and the DEADLINE mini album, proved BLACKPINK hadn't lost any of its audience.
